Every scenario, be it – in the office, household, neighborhood etc. there always a personality type which is full of negative vibes.
We all can identify such personality type in our surrounding. It can be an unruly boss, bullying sister-in-law, hostile mother-in-law or that annoying neighbour. Try to notice that you’re generally tired, unhappy and demotivated in their presences. All have gone through or heard demeaning comments such as
- “Meri Bahu ko Kuch Nahi aata!” (My daughter-in-law knows nothing)
- Why can’t you be more like your studious sister and get 90% like her? (Mother/Aunty comparing)
- Boss taking credit for your hard work.
- A gossiping neighbour who can’t stop talking.
- Long-term illness
I am sure you have encountered such problems.
Take back your power. Some helpful practices to avoid that negative black cloud grow and hover over and to find your own reserve of positive energy.
- Do not dwell on the negatives commentaries for too long.
Such things happen to everyone it’s not uncommon. How you react to it makes the difference. Stop over thinking about it if you find there’s nothing you can do to improve it.

Refrain from talking about it any longer than you absolutely have to. Find the learning lessons in the situation and be grateful and move on. This takes some practice because the more you dwell on the subject, the more it will trouble you.
- Do not speak of your problems, illnesses or worries in public
The more energy you put into what is wrong in your life, the more it will persist. Vent your feelings once in a while with someone who is wise and experienced but some important rules:
Avoid phrases such as: “I’m so ill; I don’t know how I’m going to get through all this!” Instead, use positive affirmations: “I might have caught some infection, but I’m taking care of myself that best I can, and I’m doing little better every day!”
Avoid thoughts like: “This job is awful! My boss is a bully, and nobody appreciates me!” Instead try learning: “My boss is the perfect example of how not to treat the employees!”
Learn to love and accept yourself as you are right now! Self-development is a lifelong learning and sincere practice. Instead of finding what is wrong in you try to find three good qualities within you each day. Compliment yourself each day.
- Let go of the past mistakes and burdens
Release the energy reducing burdens you carry around – the grudges, resentments, hurt, sadness, anger – ‘Let go’ of everything. Start each day with a clean slate in heart and mind.
- Do not say ‘Yes’ when you mean ‘No’
Duty towards self is first. When say yes but you actually mean no you harbour resentment. Honour your needs and energy! But ensure you decline politely.
- Smile and laugh each day
Life was given to you to enjoy and not suffer. Surround yourself with upbeat and positive people who exude warmth and make you laugh. Tell few jokes each day and make your surroundings pleasant too.
- Worry less
Train your imagination to picture what can go right, instead of what all can go wrong. Try to be the solution and not the problem.
- Remove your mental blocks exercise those positive energies.
Any form of physical exercise like swimming, brisk walking, yoga etc. will release feel-good endorphins and help you fight daily stresses.
- Be in the present moment
Past is gone and future unknown. The present is all you have, so make the most of it. Learn to do one thing each day that you enjoy. Love what you do or do what you love.
- Be thankful
The attitude of gratitude is a must. Nothing succeeds as success itself, but failure in life teaches you more. Appreciate the blessings, but remember it’s the struggles that enrich life as well.
- Why should you let others behaviour affect your temperament? Why give them the ability to control your happiness?
Take charge of your own mood and happiness. You cannot change others so try to modify your reactions avoid getting upset. Try to maintain a balanced state of mind in every situation.
Each life has the latent power to achieve the tangible divinity within. Get up each day and try to put things in the larger perspective. This way you can’t go wrong.
So, take charge of your life and be happy because no one else can do that for you.
